ABSTRACT:

Microbialproduction of cellulase and bioethanol were studied using Sugar Beet Pulp (SBP)as a substrate by Trichoderma reesei andSaccharomyces cerevisiae, respectively. The subculturemedium for cellulase production was a salt solution. Fungal cells weresub-cultured in an orbital shaker at 30°C for 4 to 6 days and then were used asan inoculum. Exponential cells were inoculated into a medium containing SBP. Amaximum cellulase activity of 0.46 IU/ml of filter paper activity was obtained.Ethanol yield was higher in pretreated SBP than in non-treated SBP. After 24 hfermentation period, 0.11 g/L ethanol was produced from pretreated SBP, whilenon-treated SBP produced 0.05 g/L ethanol.
