More importantly human work productivity is totally dependent upon the mental and physical health of a person, underscoring the intricate bidirectional relationship between well-being, educational attainment, and economic output. Consequently, early intervention through integrated mental health initiatives within educational settings is paramount for fostering optimal cognitive development and ensuring future workforce readiness. Such early interventions are particularly vital given that the global lifelong income loss due to unaddressed mental health needs in children and adolescents, especially in humanitarian emergencies, is estimated to be approximately US$203 billion, demonstrating that the economic benefits of investing in mental healthcare and psychosocial support far outweigh implementation costs. This economic advantage is further underscored by the potential for substantial returns on investment from school-based mental health programs, which have been shown to reduce crime, increase earnings, and promote educational attainment by preventing lifetime disability associated with mental health disorders. Prioritizing adolescent mental health within broader public health agendas also safeguards against the compounding effects of early-onset mental health challenges, which can disrupt the attainment of crucial developmental milestones, leading to poorer long-term physical and mental health outcomes, increased healthcare utilization, and diminished social and economic productivity.
